Prof. Leslie Lenkowsky from the USA will be the star of Wednesday’s event – an expert in volunteering, civic engagement, nonprofits as well as public policy, civil society in comparative perspective, education, social welfare policy, and social entrepreneurship. From 1990 till 1997 Prof. Lenkowsky served as president of Hudson Institute. In 2001 President George W. Bush appointed Lenkowsky as a CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Our guest of the evening will discuss civil society and its importance both in the US as well as in the Post-Communist states where it has a significant impact on the speed and quality of democratic transitions. Prof. Lenkowsky will also speak about current directions of US foreign policy – neo-Isolationism and the change of the approach towards Europe under President D. Trump.
The UN definition of civil society places it in the “third sector” of modern society, along with government and private business. It comprises of a wide variety of civil society organizations as well as non-governmental organizations.
The event will be hosted by Michał Oleksiejuk – Advisor to the Washington-based Warsaw Institute Foundation.
